In Her Hands Book Production, Website and Award Luncheon

Project Management | Art Direction | Publishing

Overview:
A 64-page commemorative book honoring 14 women from around the world who have made profound contributions to promoting positive change in their communities—often in regions affected by conflict, poverty, or political instability.

My Role:
Lead designer responsible for layout design, art direction, and coordination of visual assets. I also contributed to collateral materials supporting the book launch and award ceremony.

Challenges & Approach:
One of the biggest hurdles was sourcing high-quality photography in remote or conflict-affected areas such as Yemen and Afghanistan, where access to experienced photographers was limited. I worked closely with a global team to define a strong visual style and communicate a clear creative vision, ensuring consistency despite the variety of image sources.

Outcome & Event Launch:
The project culminated in a high-profile book launch in Washington, D.C., where the honorees were recognized and received awards. I designed supporting materials for the event and its promotion, including invitations, banners, email blasts, and a microsite.

Relevance to AKF Role:
This project exemplifies my ability to manage complex, mission-driven design initiatives with attention to brand alignment and storytelling. At AKF, where compelling, accessible communication is vital to donor outreach and public health education, I would bring the same strategic thinking, attention to detail, and ability to manage multi-channel campaigns—from print publications to digital assets—within a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
